Tips for Fresh Breath

Most people are concerned about their breath. Having bad breath can really eat away at your confidence. There are some things you can do to ensure that you and those close to you enjoy fresh breath at all times. The first thing to do is to find out the cause of your bad breath. It could be due to poor oral hygiene, infected tonsils, the food you eat, smoking or stomach infection. Finding the root cause will help know what to do to improve your breath.

  • Adapting proper oral hygiene will ensure that bacteria do not build up in your mouth, which is what causes bad breath. Regular brushing of teeth and flossing will ensure that you get all food particles out of your mouth. It also reduces the amount of bacteria that is in your mouth. There are toothpastes that you can get that will help you freshen your breath as you brush.
  •
  • Rinse with a mouthwash – using antiseptic mouthwash will help kill all the bacteria in the mouth. A peroxide based mouthwash is recommended. Avoid mouthwashes with alcohol as they strip the mouth dry which is what the bacteria need to thrive. There are also other mouthwashes that are specifically for freshening breath and you can use them to ensure that your mouth smells great at all times.
  •
  • Clean your tongue – the tongue is where bad breath bacteria live. It is important to scrap your tongue as a way of cleaning. You can use your toothbrush when brushing or you can get a specifically designed tongue scrapper from the drug store. A clean tongue will ensure that you have a fresh smelling tongue.
  •
  • Use mouth freshening gums and rinses once you have eaten pungent food that can cause you to have bad breath. You can also incorporate other food in your diet that will help counter the smell of the pungent food.
  •

You can visit your dentist so that he or she can help you in finding out the reason for your bad breath. Sometimes tooth decay can cause your mouth to smell and the dentist will help you remedy this. If the problem is beyond the oral cavity, the dentist may refer you to a doctor who will be able to treat what ails you. Taking care of your oral health is one way of ensuring that your breath remains fresh. Brush regularly and use floss in order to reach all corners of the teeth.
