Foods to Give You Fresh Breath

There is nothing as important as having fresh breath especially because you are bound to speak with people on a daily basis. We have all been victims of bad breath and this is the reason why it is important to ensure that such embarrassing moments never happen again. When you do not brush your teeth, food particles remain in the mouth causing bacteria to develop. This is what causes odor. Worst case scenario happens when bad breath leads to gum diseases.

Bad breath can ruin your social life. The good news is that you can prevent it. Regular brushing and flossing allows the mouth to remain clean and bacteria free. Here are foods that you should include in your diet to encourage fresh breath and remain confident all day long as you speak:

  • Water: Water is necessary to hydrate your body. It is also responsible for keeping your mouth and throat moist to prevent bad breath. Water also washes away bacteria and food particles left in the mouth after eating.
  •
  • Apples: These fruits are high in fiber making the mouth generate a lot of saliva. Saliva allows the mouth to remain moist thereby preventing bacteria. Similarly, when you eat apples, they remove food particles and plaque from teeth.
  •
  • Sugar free gum: When you chew gum, you produce more saliva in the mouth which is an enemy to bacteria. Gum also removes food stuck on teeth. When looking for gum, go for brands that have xylitol as this substance protects your teeth from decay and bad breath.
  •
  • Foods rich in vitamin c: Foods with this vitamin neutralize bad breath especially after eating food that has garlic and onions.
  •
  • Yoghurt: This drink is a great source of fresh breath. Bacteria produce hydrogen sulfide in the mouth as a waste product that causes tooth decay and cavities. Yoghurt lowers the production of this waste product.
  •
  • Whole grain bread: When you eat healthy carbohydrates such as this bread, your body will burn fat and produce ketones. These ketones are released from your body through your mouth, urine and sweat. Eating healthy carbohydrates assists in improving bad breath.
  •
  • Cinnamon is great for fresh breath as it also kills bacteria that causes odor.
  •
  • Green tea: This tea is an antioxidant and assists in preventing bacteria from remaining on teeth after eating. Green tea also lowers sulfur compounds that are a waster product of bacteria.
